NFL red zone stats, 2026: offenses, defenses and who gets the touches
Every team’s trips inside the opponent’s 20 and how many ended in a touchdown, for and against, through week 4 of 2026 (4 games per team, 420 red-zone trips in all). These are raw rates, not adjusted for the opponents faced, so the order describes the season so far rather than rating anyone. A red-zone touchdown rate on a dozen trips barely repeats; touchdowns per drive and the players who get the ball near the goal line repeat far better.
Red-zone offense by team
Ordered by touchdowns per drive, the one of these three that most reliably carries over. RZ TD rate is touchdowns over red-zone trips (a drive that reached the 20); TD per drive is touchdown drives over all drives.

Red-zone defense by team
The same three figures for the offenses each defense faced, ordered from the fewest touchdowns per drive allowed. Defensive rates repeat less than offensive ones, and 4 games is a small sample for any of them.

Most red-zone touches and targets
The 20 players with the most carries plus targets inside the opponent’s 20 this season. Backs fill a combined count because a team’s red-zone carries go mostly to one or two of them, while its targets are spread across a whole receiving room — so receivers and tight ends get a board of their own below.

What repeats in the red zone
Getting the ball there is a role; scoring with it repeats far less. A running back’s share of his team’s opportunities inside the 20 carries over across a season at 0.81. For wide receivers it is 0.62 and for tight ends 0.66, so a “red-zone receiver” changes more from week to week than a goal-line back. Touchdown counts in the tables above are what happened; the touches and targets beside them are the part that predicts.
For teams, the same split: reaching the red zone and scoring per drive are offensive traits, while the share of red-zone trips that become touchdowns is close to noise for offenses and defenses alike. The reliability of each figure is printed under its table.
