Where the data comes from
This site is built almost entirely on free, public data. The people who maintain it are owed the credit, and anyone who wants us to stop should be able to find us in one step.
The data
nflverse — play-by-play, schedules, rosters, snap counts, injury reports, Next Gen Stats and the closing game lines back to 1999. Nearly every number on this site traces to it. It is an open community project and it is the reason a site like this can exist at all.
Wikipedia — coaching staff by season, read from team staff templates and their revision history. Text from Wikipedia is licensed CC BY-SA.
Sleeper — public league and roster endpoints, used only when you connect your own team, plus the add counts behind the waiver page.
Open-Meteo — forecast and archived weather for outdoor stadiums.
The Odds API — the posted line for a market, captured before kickoff. We publish the number and never a price, and we name no sportsbook.
ProFootballTalk, Yahoo Sports and CBS Sports — public RSS headlines, used to spot news that runs ahead of the official injury report. We store the headline and a link and never the article.
ESPN — injury designations, which teams file and the league publishes, read from a public endpoint.
How we behave toward them
We say who we are. Every request carries slatestats/1.0 and a link to this page, so any source can identify us, rate-limit us or ask us to stop.
We take little and rarely. Headlines every few minutes, injury designations every fifteen, everything else a few times a week. Nothing is re-fetched when it has not changed.
We stop when asked. One ESPN endpoint answered normally to an anonymous request and refused one that named us. We removed it rather than take our name off the request, and the news feed runs on three sources instead of four. If any source here prefers we did not use them, write and we will remove them.
What we do not do
We do not republish anyone's articles, only headlines with a link back.
We do not show player photographs. The rights to a player's likeness are not ours to use.
We do not publish odds, take bets, or carry sportsbook advertising or affiliate links.
We do not run analytics or advertising trackers of any kind.

hello@slatestats.com reaches a person. If a number looks wrong, or you maintain a source listed here and want us to change how we use it, that is the fastest route.
